Photos & Description of The Salmon House

The Salmon House is a wonderful Victorian oceanfront home named for its colorful painted shingles in several shades of salmon. Located in the town of Lubec, Maine, and situated on over an acre fronting Johnson's Bay, it's a relaxing spot with an awe-inspiring view out to North Lubec and Eastport. Sitting under an old cherry tree by the shore is magical. Climb down the path the clammers have used forever to a beach (when the tide's out), and go either direction for a secluded walk, yet you're only a mile from town!

Why Lubec?

If your idea of nightlife is counting the stars, walking on a moonlit beach, sharing the pool table at Annabell's Pub, watching the lighthouse flash at West Quoddy Head, or just strolling the streets, then you might like Lubec. Come to Lubec to walk in the woods, experience our world-class bird watching, and much, much more.

See whales from the shore, hike rugged cliffs, see eagles soar, beachcomb for sea glass, or watch the tide change and all without crowds. If your ideas of good food and home cooking are handmade chocolates, fresh organic whole milk, artisans bread, homemade butter, fish cakes with chow chow, baked bean suppers, the weekly Thursday BBQ, homegrown vegetables, really fresh seafood, and eggs from happy chickens, you'll find Lubec to be your kind of town.

Hear the sounds of the surf, the wind in the trees, the cries of seagulls, the forlorn fog horn, SummerKeys free Wednesday night concerts, and the blow of a whale. If you long for some learning visit Burham Tavern, Fort O'Brien State Historic site, Machias Seal Island, Saint Croix Island International Historic Site, and Roosevelt Campobello International Park. Or attend music camp and Plein Air art classes, and view works of the many downeast artisans. You'll find the ocean all around you, with miles of beaches to explore. You can cross the bridge to Canada and island hop by ferry, kayak or schooner, visit all of our famous lighthouses and meet the truly friendly people of Lubec.
